MONTANA, UNITED STATES

Open All | Close All

Location

The Vermillion Ranch is located 11 miles east of Big Timber, Montana and about 70 miles from major airports in both Bozeman and Billings. From the ranch, it's just a short drive to the Absaroka Mountains and the Crazy Mountains, as well as the Boulder River, the Stillwater River, the Spring Creeks of Paradise Valley, and a host of small mountain streams teeming with wild trout.

The Fishing

The Vermillion Ranch is located in the heart of Montana's finest trout country. With its frontage on the Yellowstone River (including a private boat ramp), numerous riffles, eddies and pools provide a myriad of fly-fishing opportunities. Trout average 16 inches with 20+ inch fish caught on a regular basis. The Yellowstone River is a wonderful dry fly river with great mayfly and caddis hatches in April and July, and exceptional terrestrial fishing with hoppers in August and September. In addition to the Yellowstone, guests at the Ranch are a short drive from the Boulder River, the Stillwater River, and the Spring Creeks of Paradise Valley, as well as an endless collection of mountain streams and lakes.

Accommodation

The 800 acre Vermillion Ranch has 2 lodges in which to stay: the Harrison Homestead and the Lewis & Clark Cabin. The Harrison Homestead is one of the oldest homes in Sweetgrass County. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places, the recently renovated home features 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, a wonderful deck and extremely comfortable furnishings. The second lodge, built in the 1870's, is the Lewis and Clark cabin which has been fully restored. The cabin has 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a kitchen and living room and each room has been furnished to make you feel at home and offers all the amenities for a comfortable Montana vacation.

Typical Day

Your day will begin with breakfast at 7:30am after which your guide will take you out for a day on the local rivers fly fishing for trophy brown trout. Shore lunches are served by the guide and supper is back at the main lodge at 6 pm.
