Like many people – and fly fishers in particular – I tend to be a creature of habit. When I find a nice
place to fish I return to it until it becomes one of two things: too popular or too boring. As many anglers know, the Great Lakes have a wealth of rivers that are perfect destinations in the fall for anglers in search of migratory salmon and steelhead but, perhaps surprising to many, many of the best rivers in Ontario are virtually untouched.
Ontario has an incredible number of excellent fly fishing destinations that see little to no angling pressure because they are off the beaten track and a significant number of these rivers are between the French River and Sault Ste. Marie on the north shore of Georgian Bay. This area is within a 6 hour drive of Toronto and you will be
hard-pressed to see any anglers on most of these rivers this autumn which ironically is one of the best times of the year to fish this region. If you have heard of the St. Mary’s or the Garden River and are interested you should also look into the fishing available along the north shore of Georgian Bay and Manitoulin Island… If of interest send us an email and we will set you up with a guide who will help open your eyes to some of Ontario’s lesser known fishing hot spots.
