Hurricane Irene’s Aftermath in the Bahamas

No Comments Uncategorized

We received an email yesterday from our friends at Nervous Waters who operate 3 lodges in the Bahamas that we thought we should pass along…

“Even though Hurricane Irene left quite a mess in Abaco Island, many residents said that it could have been much worse as floods are always a concern due to the Bahamas being so flat. Shelters were opened on Thursday at 7 am, so that Abaco Island residents could ride out the storm in safety. We were also lucky that Abaco lodge suffered no structural damage, despite the fact that it’s extremely exposed – being directly located on the marls. We can now say that the lodge is safe, except for some minor necessary repairs, such us the dock which was washed away and many trees that were knocked down. By daylight Friday, the flooding from the storm had subsided. Fortunately, we have plenty of time to get the lodge back to normal and even better, before the fall season starts – and we look forward to having you join us!”

If you would like more information on this and other lodges in the Bahamas please check out our travel section. Remember that if you book your trip through WILSON’S you pay the same as going direct to the lodge but we give you a gift certificate worth 10% of the trip value to spend in our store! Fly Fishing for 33.5lb Sea Run Trout

No Comments Uncategorized

I received an email yesterday from my friends at Nervous Waters informing me that an angler had an epic day in the Rio Grande that he described as follows:

“The fishing was tough so we had decided that it was time to go back to the lodge. I was just about to turn around when I felt the strongest strike I had ever felt. It didn’t take long (despite it being the hardest fight I had ever had) before I could see this monster of 1.03 mts long and 33.5 lbs!!!

It’s an absolute record at Villa Maria! The fish was amazingly fresh and tough as a rock. Everything in that fish was perfect, the conditions, the silver chrome color, the shape & the size! It was my biggest Sea Trout ever and the biggest fish ever caught in Villa Maria Lodge as the previous record was 32 lbs. I had dreamt with this day so many times that now that it came true, I know I will save it in my memory for as long as I live”.

With the Canadian dollar as strong as it is, is you have every dreamed of travelling to Argentina to experience the fly fishing now is one of the best times to go! For information on Nervous Waters please go to nervouswaters.com/
