Grand River Conditions

1 Comment Uncategorized

If you have had occasion to visit the Grand River lately you may have been a bit alarmed by the low level of the water. While discussing this on the WILSON’S Facebook page earlier this week a friend of the store, Dr Ian Martin, was kind enough to point out that Bellwood Lake reservoir is at 80% capacity which is normal for this time of year and no cause for concern. Ian explained that the GRCA keeps the reservoir at this level during the spring in order to have enough extra capacity for spring rains that are typical (but, as Ian noted, of course not always guaranteed).

As we continue our preparations for the opening of our new fly shop in Fergus in the coming days we will keep an eye on the river and start posting conditions on our website when the Ontario trout season starts at the end of the month.
