The “Fly Shop Fix”

No Comments Uncategorized

I am fortunate that I have (only a) few vices in my life and none that are destructive – at least to my knowledge. Fly fishing is arguably one of those vices and my family would argue that it is very easily at the top of my list of distractions. I admit freely that I am more than a bit of a fly fishing junkie and it often gets in the way of other parts of my life. In fact, if I go too long without at least visiting a fly shop I get a bit squirrelly and today was one of those days. I was in London Ontario on business and had a few minutes at the end of a very long day so I popped by the Forest City Fly Shop (formerly Jay’s Fly Shop) to check it out. My visit was exactly what the doctor ordered… Although the shop is small the staff more than make up for what they may not have on the walls with friendliness, knowledge and a quick smile. It was pleasure visiting and I look forward to going back. After my visit I thought to myself that a fly fisher walking into a fly shop is a bit like an addict getting a ‘fix’ and while it may produce a quick high it does not dampen the addiction…
