I Get It…

No Comments Uncategorized

I was at the Forks of the Credit on the weekend to see some friends who live in the area and was able to take a few moments to check out the river. It looked much like this photo except there was not as much snow. I have to admit that just standing there on the side of the Dominion Street bridge watching the water flow beneath me made my day. There may only be 6 shopping days left until Christmas but I spent the better part of the weekend thinking about seeing the Forks of the Credit.

I have a friend who is an avid angler and she once admitted to me with a bit of embarrassment that in the middle of the winter she sometimes finds herself taking her fly rods out of their tubes and just looking at them. When she told me this I smiled knowingly because, well, I get it.

Standing along the banks of the Credit River does the same thing to me…

Forks of the Credit Fly Fishing

No Comments Uncategorized

I had the opportunity, or rather, I took the opportunity, to head up to the Forks of the Credit in Caledon earlier this week to try my luck in the Meadow. The weather had cooled down from ‘broil’ to ‘bake’ and it had rained so we decided to see what the conditions were like.

Long story short, the water level was better than the fishing and the most abundant hatch was comprised of mosquitoes… but it was still a good evening. I took this shot while walking through Forks of the Credit Provincial Park towards Dominion Street and couldn’t help but think to myself, “The only thing that would make this shot better would be to have my son Jake in it walking ahead of me with his fly rod…” Nice thought but the only problem with that idea? He is 6 months old. Oh well, it is something I will look forward to doing with him. Until then he is in my thoughts…

Trout Unlimited Workday: Sunday July 10 – 9am

No Comments Uncategorized

If you would like something to do this Sunday (other than sleeping in) we encourage you to drive up to the Dominion Street Bridge at the Forks of the Credit River for 9am to help Trout Unlimited Canada with a work day. Organized by the Greg Clark Chapter of TUC and the Izaak Walton Fly Fishing Club, volunteers will be working in-stream at the lower meadow site adjacent to a brookie spring constructing a ‘debris catcher’ using a B.C. technique for high gradient streams to provide instream cover for trout and salmon.

For further information please contact Steve Copeland at stevec@porchlight.ca or 519-927-5025.

PS – don’t forget to bring your rod…

Lost & Found: Forks of the Credit

1 Comment Uncategorized

A good friend of the store was fly fishing the Forks of the Credit on Monday May 16 and had a disappointing incident we would like to share with you. He had taken off his hip pack and left it on the bank near the Dominion Street Bridge pool and ended up getting into a nice fish that took him downstream for about 15 minutes. Upon returning to the bridge, the pack and the gear he had left on the bank was gone.

What he lost was a green Orvis hip pack with a Wheatly fly box full of dries, streamers and nymphs (his entire winter tying stash), all of his tippet and his fishing license. Whoever picked it up obviously knows the name of the owner but has not yet reached out to him. If you know the person who found this gear and they think it was “lost” or “forgotten” please have them contact our store so we can put them in touch with the owner.

Thanks!
