We received an email yesterday from our friends at Nervous Waters who operate 3 lodges in the Bahamas that we thought we should pass along…
“Even though Hurricane Irene left quite a mess in Abaco Island, many residents said that it could have been much worse as floods are always a concern due to the Bahamas being so flat. Shelters were opened on Thursday at 7 am, so that Abaco Island residents could ride out the storm in safety. We were also lucky that Abaco lodge suffered no structural damage, despite the fact that it’s extremely exposed – being directly located on the marls. We can now say that the lodge is safe, except for some minor necessary repairs, such us the dock which was washed away and many trees that were knocked down. By daylight Friday, the flooding from the storm had subsided. Fortunately, we have plenty of time to get the lodge back to normal and even better, before the fall season starts – and we look forward to having you join us!”
