My Fly Fishing Wish List for May 2010

No Comments Uncategorized

I was walking along the banks of the Miramichi River in New Brunswick today with my dog Hunter and thinking about what I saw first thing this morning when I got out of bed. I was walking towards my desk which is situated in the front window of my camp overlooking the river and just as I opened my laptop an Osprey flew by at eye level (my house is at the top of the valley) with a nice Atlantic Salmon grilse in its talons. This fish was big enough to give the hawk second thoughts about staying airborne but it was able to keep flying. Last I saw it was heading east and the thought that came to my mind was, “Good for her. I hope I can catch one that big…” My other fly fishing wishes for the month of May are as follows:

9. Watch the Habs beat the Penguins
8. Spend at least 4 evenings with a cane rod and a cigar on the Upper Credit
7. Join Tony Gehman of TCO in Philadelphia exploring chalk streams in PA
6. Make Carrie at SIMMS happy
5. Finally sort out my fly boxes
4. Try and figure out who makes the best 7 weight rod – and buy it
3. Fish that river on Hwy 11 that I have endlessly driven past saying, “I have to stop one of these days…”
2. Spend a day fishing with my dear friend EJ Long on the Miramichi River
1. Enjoy a weekend fishing the Bighead (join us at the Falls Inn May 14-16 for $450/person – call the store to book your spot)

That’s my list – what is yours ?
