Friends of the Grand River

1 Comment Uncategorized

I got a call from Ken Collins of Grand River Troutfitters last Friday asking if I would be interested in partnering with him on Saturday to help raise money for the 2010 edition of “Grand Opportunities”. Organized by the Friends of the Grand, this event raises money for conservation initiatives focussed on the Grand River watershed and as soon as Ken made his offer I was on board. When it comes to helping out with Southwestern Ontario’s fly fishing resources, Ken has been one of the hardest working members of our community over the years and I appreciated his invitation to help out at this year’s event.

The Friends of the Grand River is a non-profit, volunteer organization incorporated in 1995 that raises money through membership fees, donations, sponsorship and fund raising events and works to preserve the Grand River watershed. If you are not familiar with the work the Friends of the Grand has done over the years – and continues to do – please go to their website.

There are only a handful of organizations in our sport that ‘walk the walk’ and the Friends of the Grand is one of them so I hope readers of this blog will consider supporting their valuable work. For more details go to www.friendsofthegrandriver.com/index.html

Great event. Excellent seminars and the on river component really added to the day. Having knowledgeable speakers like Ken Collins, Steve May, and Mike Verhoef among others on hand to answer questions and suggest ideas really helped. Also the steak lunch was superb.
I recommend that if you possible attend next year if you didn’t make it this time around.
